Petrol price crosses Rs 82 per litre in Delhi

Petrol price crossed Rs 82 per litre-mark in the national capital on Sunday, as the price of the fuel rose across the four metro cities after a day's pause.

In Delhi, petrol was priced at Rs 82.03, higher by 9 paise from ₹81.94 on Saturday.

Price of the fuel in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata was at ₹88.68, ₹85, ₹83.52 per litre, respectively, against the previous levels of ₹88.58, ₹84.91 and ₹83.43 per litre.

Diesel prices were unchanged across the four cities. In New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, the fuel was priced at Rs 73.56, Rs 80.11, Rs 78.86 and Rs 77.06 per litre respectively.

In a tragic incident, three minor sisters were killed when a wall of their thatched house collapsed following heavy rain in Raipura area of UP's Chitrakoot district.

Sub Divisional Magistrate of Mau tehsil Raj Bahadur said, "The wall of the thatched house of Ashok Varma collapsed, killing his three daughters. The deceased have been identified as Ritu (12), Shivdevi (9) and Pooja (5). The sisters had died by the time the villagers removed the debris."

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.

Depressed minor daughter had killed mother, brother

The 15-year-old daughter of a railway official was taken into custody on Saturday after she allegedly shot dead her mother and brother.

The wife and son of R.D. Bajpai, Executive Director, Railway Board, were found murdered at the government bungalow under Gautam Palli police station in Lucknow on Saturday.

The officer's daughter, who studies in Class 10 and is a trained shooter, and is said to be suffering from depression.

Lucknow Commissioner of Police (CP) Sujeet Pandey said, "After killing the two, the minor girl, who was not in good mental health, also tried to harm herself by slitting her wrists with a razor."

UP man commits suicide after setting cousin ablaze

A 35-year-old man who had allegedly set his cousin ablaze in a market area in Uttar Pradesh, ended his life by suicide in a temporary jail's toilet.

Robin Varma (35) had allegedly poured highly-inflammable industrial thinner (methyl) on his cousin Rakesh Varma (40) and had set him ablaze on Wednesday.

Rakesh, who sustained 80 per cent burns, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Firozabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sachindra Patel had said, "Initial investigation revealed that Puja Varma, the wife of Robin had committed suicide on August 12. There seems to be some dispute in the family which led to the incident."

Death toll from rain-related incidents in Pak reaches 134

The death toll from rain-related incidents across Pakistan has increased to 134, the country's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said in a report.

Sharing the data of casualties from June 15 to August 29 on its website, the NDMA said on Saturday that rescue and relief operations were being carried out in the affected areas by concerned departments of the government, army and non-governmental organizations, reports Xinhua news agency.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the worst hit where 48 people were killed and 42 others injured, the authority said.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah told a press conference on Friday that 80 people were killed in rains in the province with 47 fatalities in provincial capital Karachi alone.

29 killed in China restaurant collapse

At least 29 people were killed after a restaurant collapsed in China's Shanxi province, authorities said on Sunday.

The accident happened on Saturday during a birthday party banquet for an 80-year-old person at the Juxian Restaurant in Chenzhuang village, Xinhua news agency reported.

The rescue work ended at 3.52 a.m. Sunday.

A total of 57 people were pulled out of the debris of the collapsed two-storey building.

Twenty-nine of them were confirmed dead, seven were severely injured and 21 others suffered minor injuries.

The conditions of the seven serious cases were not life-threatening.

An investigation team has been set up to probe the accident.

With 56 new corona cases, alarm bells ring again in Taj city

Agra reported 56 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, even as the 55-hour weekend lockdown continues.

Alarmed by the rising graph of cases, the district administration is strictly enforcing the weekend lockdown which will end Monday morning. Officials appealed to the people not to move out without work and follow the guidelines in respect of social distancing and mask-wearing.

District Magistrate PN Singh warned that those who violated the guidelines would be heavily fined.

The government offices are the worst hit. The district health department has recommended staggered working hours.

Meanwhile, there were indications that the district authorities would permit reopening of the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort from September 15 as new guidelines for Unlock 4 will come into force from September 1.

Global COVID-19 cases top 24.8 million: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 24.9 million, while the deaths have increased to over 840,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Sunday morning, the total number of cases stood at 24,891,294 and the fatalities rose to 840,892, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

TN logs net increase of 220 COVID infections

The net increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in Tamil Nadu over the past 24 hours was 220 after factoring the new infections, discharges and deaths, as per the state health department on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the department, the total number of COVID patients was 52,726 as compared to 52,506 on Friday.

As many as 6,352 persons have tested positive for coronavirus over the past 24 hours, pushing the total tally to 4,15,590.

The total number of recoveries went up by 6,045 to 355,727.

The state recorded 87 more COVID fatalities, taking the total toll to 7,137.

Chennai continued to top the COVID-19 chart with 1,285 persons testing positive for the virus, pushing the total tally in the state capital to 133,173.

Israel reports 1,465 new COVID-19 cases; 113,465 in total

The number of coronavirus cases in Israel has risen to 113,465, with 1,465 new cases, the Ministry of Health said on Saturday.

The death toll rose to 906 after 12 new fatalities were added, while the number of patients in serious condition rose from 414 to 438, out of 861 patients currently hospitalised, Xinhua reported.

The number of recoveries rose to 92,104, with 1,053 new recoveries, while the number of active cases rose to 20,455.

Earlier in the day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed a team of ministers to resolve the issue of ultra-Orthodox Jews travelling to the Ukrainian city of Uman amid the coronavirus crisis, the Prime Minister's Office said.

Global COVID-19 deaths surpass 840,000

Global COVID-19 deaths surpassed 840,000 on Saturday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

With total COVID-19 cases around the world reaching 24,892,543, the death toll worldwide rose to 840,341, the CSSE data showed, Xinhua reported.

The US reported the most COVID-19 cases and deaths, which stood at 5,958,486 and 182,711 respectively, accounting for more than one fifth of the global death toll. Brazil recorded 3,846,153 cases and 120,262 deaths, second only to the United States.

Other countries with over 30,000 fatalities include Mexico, India, Britain, Italy and France.

27 COVID-19 patients discharged in Chinese mainland

The National Health Commission said on Sunday that 27 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland on Saturday.

There were 244 patients still being treated, including four in severe conditions, the commission said in its daily report, Xinhua reported.

Altogether 80,153 patients had been cured and discharged from hospitals by Saturday, the report said.

As of Saturday, a total of 85,031 confirmed Covid-19 cases had been reported on the mainland, among whom 4,634 died of the disease.

1 Cop killed,3 Terrorists Shot Dead In Overnight Encounter In J&K

One policeman died in action, and 3 terrorists were killed during an ongoing encounter in Srinagar on Saturday night, officials said.

The dead policeman has been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Babu Ram.

The encounter started after terrorists fired upon a Naka party of the police and the CRPF at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar.

Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and a search operation was started which led to an exchange of fire between the terrorists and the security forces.
