Twitter outraged as NH reports on gender discrimination at BHU

Government has not responded to a JD(U) MP’s questions in the Rajya Sabha on reported gender-based and other discrimination at BHU, a central university, but Twitter rose to condemn the VC’s actions

National Herald on Tuesday, February 7 reported that Janata Dal (United) MP Ali Anwar Ansari had exposed several bizarre decisions taken by Banaras Hindu University Vice Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi—who boasts of his association with the RSS—in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.


These decisions included non-veg food being disallowed in the girls’ hostels at BHU, a central university, while there are no such restrictions for boys, among many other problematic decisions. There was no response from the Government to Ansari’s questions, but that wasn’t the case on Twitter. Many users expressed outrage at the discriminatory and misogynistic nature of some of the VC’s decisions. Here are some of the reactions:
