AICC general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday interacted with candidates recruited as teachers in the state since 2016 but are yet to get postings. There was recruitment of 12,460 teachers.

It is worth mentioning that when they were recruited, there were posts for teachers in 51 districts but zero posts in 24 districts. The candidates from these districts have not yet been appointed. For the last three years, they have been running from pillar to post, but in vain.

Through video conferencing, Priyanka Gandhi heard the plight of these candidates and promised all possible help to them.

Many candidates broke down during VC

During the video conferencing, a female candidate told Priyanka that when she took the exam in 2016, she was very happy after being selected, but she has not been appointed till date. She has two small twin children and was worried about their upbringing. She was in depression for almost two years after not getting a job. Her children often went hungry and thirsty. Sharing her plight, she said the situation at her home had become very bad. She has to think 10 times before spending even Rs 10 on them.

Another candidate said that he has studied very hard for the exam. He said he had thought that he would be able to help his family but he had just been around wandering for three years. “I had started giving tuition to children, which is also now closed due to corona. A member of the family was in a private job but now he too has lost his job. The family is now faced with the problem of getting two square meals a day,” he said.

Two other candidates, while sharing their pain, told Priyanka Gandhi that their marriage was destroyed after they failed to get jobs and were facing social ridicule. “What is my fault? We are qualified and have got better marks in the examination, but the government changes its rules every day,” one participant said.

Priyanka Gandhi promised every possible help, while pointing out that this was not a political issue but a question of humanity and justice.
