Uttar Pradesh: Youth killed in train altercation over seats, brothers injured
The incident, which took place on a running train near Amethi, has raised huge concerns over passenger safety on the Indian Railways

A tragic incident occurred on the Begampura Express when a seat dispute turned violent resulting in the death of a 24-year-old man named Tauhid and two of his brothers sustained serious injuries after an altercation with a group of youths, the police said in Amethi on Thursday, 5 December.
The attackers, armed with a knife and an iron rod, escalated the conflict to a fatal level. The police acted quickly, leading to the arrest of the accused individuals involved in the attack.
The incident occurred between Lucknow and Nihalgarh stations when the train was en route from Jammu to Varanasi.
The incident has raised concerns over passenger safety and the dangers of seemingly minor disputes turning violent.
According to police, the altercation began over a seat and escalated into a physical confrontation.
Tauhid, a 24-year-old resident of Maderikan, was returning home from Ambala when he got into an argument with a group of youths from Gautampur village in adjoining Sultanpur district.
"The dispute intensified, and the youths attacked Tauhid with a knife and an iron rod, fatally injuring him," a police official said.
Before succumbing to his injuries, Tauhid managed to inform his family, prompting his brothers, Talib (20) and Tausif (27), to rush to Nihalgarh railway station, the official said.
"Upon arrival, the attackers assaulted them as well, leaving both seriously injured. Talib was referred to Lucknow's trauma centre after initial treatment at CHC Jagdishpur, while Tausif continues to receive treatment at the CHC," the official added.
Tanuj Pal, the station house officer of the local Bhale Sultan Shaheed Smarak police station, said, "The body has been sent for post-mortem, and necessary legal action is being taken. The accused youths have been arrested by the GRP (Government Railway Police) at Sultanpur railway station".
The four assailants— reportedly named Deepak, Mithun, Pawan and Sujeet — were apparently already sitting in the seat Tauhid was to occupy when he boarded.
It is not clear at this time whether there was a communal angle to the conflict.
