Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal hopes with Prasoon Joshi’s appointment as the new chief of the Central Board of Film Certification, things will improve.

“Prasoon Joshi himself is an artiste. He is a highly rated poet, he also knows media extremely well.”

The government replaced Pahlaj Nihalani with songwriter-poet Prasoon Joshi as the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on Friday. Since his appointment as the chief of the 23-member Board Nihalani has been embroiled in controversies. His appointment as the CBFC chief was said to have been pushed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

According to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Joshi was appointed with immediate effect for a period of three years or until further orders.
