Election Commission officials indicated shortly after vote count began at 8 a.m. that Bharatiya Janata Party candidates were ahead in 14 seats while the Congress had forged ahead in two seats. The trend of 165 seats out of 182 seats in Gujarat, BJP lagging behind the majority. BJP and Congress are ahead in 75 seats in 86 seats
