A decision will be taken on Friday on the architecture of alliance for Maharashtra govt formation: Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan

The Congress-NCP combine on Thursday said that the two parties have completed their discussion on all issues related to government formation in Maharashtra and will now hold talks with Shiv Sena in Mumbai to "finalise the architecture of alliance".

Former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan told reporters after a meeting of Congress and NCP leaders that there is a "complete unanimity" on all issues and when the alliance partners, which will include the Sena, announce their common minimum programme, then the power-sharing formula among the three parties will be disclosed.

The Congress and NCP leaders had held a marathon meeting on Wednesday to thrash out details of their alliance as they work to form a new government in the state in tie up with Sena.

They had expressed confidence of forming a stable government.

Cong hits out at BPCL disinvestment decision, says govt 'selling the country'

Criticising the government over its decision on disinvestment of BPCL and other companies, the Congress on Thursday accused it of "selling the country".

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a strategic divestment of the government's 53.29 per cent stake in BPCL, along with transfer of certain management control. This is excluding BPCL's equity share holding of 61 per cent stake in Numaligarh Refinery.

"They did not create anything, but will sell everything. This is called selling the country. If there is Modi, it is possible," tweeted Randeep Surjewala in Hindi.

Leading experts from the UK and Indian universities have launched the world's largest study on babies with brain injuries in India this week to help prevent epilepsy.

The Imperial College London will lead the Prevention of Epilepsy by reducing Neonatal Encephalopathy (PREVENT) study to try and reduce the number of epilepsy cases following perinatal brain injury.

According to experts, brain injury during labour or childbirth is one of the leading causes of epilepsy in babies in some areas of the world and a common cause is perinatal asphyxia – where oxygen is cut off to the foetal brain, damaging it.
