Eating eggs may turn people into cannibals: BJP leader Gopal Bhargava

Criticising the Congress’s move to serve eggs in the mid-day meals, the BJP leader said, “If we have non-vegetarian food from childhood, we may grow up to become man-eaters”

BJP leader Gopal Bhargava has come up with a new theory that may turn all scientifically proved nutrition theories upside down.

The BJP legislature, who is also the leader of the opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly said that the consumption of non-vegetarian food/eggs from childhood might turn people into cannibals.

“Eating non-vegetarian food is prohibited in our sanatan sanskriti. If we have non-vegetarian food from childhood, we may grow up to become man-eaters,” said Bhargava while criticising the Congress government’s recent move to serve eggs in mid-day meals.

“What else can be expected from a ‘malnutritioned’ government?” taunted Bhargava adding, “They (Kamal Nath Government) serve eggs even to those who do not want them. We cannot force people to eat anything.”

Madhya Pradesh Women and Child Development Minister, Imarti Devi on Wednesday told media that to tackle malnutrition, Congress-led state government has decided to introduce eggs in mid-day meals offered to children in Anganwadis.

Responding to the criticism, Devi said that eggs are not non-vegetarian food.

“They (opposition) can say what they want. If the doctors who treat malnourished children say that eggs are good for the health of children, then they are good. Also, eggs do not come in the category of non-vegetarian food, they come under vegetarian food,” she was quoted as saying by the media.

Bhargava who is known to create controversy was issued a warning by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for giving provocative speech earlier this month.

During the Jhabua by-election, Bhargava said that Congress represents Pakistan while BJP represents India. An FIR was filed against him in the same matter on the orders of the ECI.
