Around 1,900 kg ganja was seized while being transported in Odisha's Ganjam district, police said on Wednesday.

The ganja, worth around Rs 40 lakh, was seized in the district's Digapahandi area after police intercepted a van during patrolling on Tuesday, they said.

The driver of the van, identified as Biswaranjan Biswal of Khurda district, has been arrested, said S N Murmu, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Chikiti.

The ganja, being transported from Mohana area in Gajapati district to Puri, was packed in 60 gunny bags with over 30 kg in each, he said.

Two militants were killed and a CRPF jawan died in a gunbattle in Shalteng area outside Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, police said.

Ahmad Nabi, 52, a cancer patient has been granted bail by the Allahabad High Court after he was booked for anti-CAA protests in Agra.

A groom was shot dead by unidentified assailants just before he reached the 'mandap' for the wedding ceremony.

The incident took place on Tuesday night in Masirpur bazaar locality in Devgaon police circle.

According to reports, the 'baraat' had come from Singhpur and just as the groom was walking towards the 'mandap, two bike-borne assailants came and sprayed him with bullets.

The groom was taken to a nearby medical facility where he was declared brought dead.

Angry family members created a ruckus at the hospital after which the police came and sent the body for post mortem.

A number of family members, both from the groom and the bride side, have been detained for interrogation to ascertain the motive behind the crime

The police said that the killers were probably following the groom from a distance and attacked him when the ceremony was about to begin.

There were no CCTV cameras in the area.
