With COVID cases rising alarmingly in the state, Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday decided to extend the closure of schools from Classes 1 to 12 till April 30.
All coaching centres will also remain closed during this period.
"Classes of all the government/non-government schools from Classes 1 to 12 will remain closed in the state until April 30. Coaching centres will be closed. Pre-scheduled examinations may take place during this period. Teachers and other staff can be present as per the requirement," Chief Minister Yogi Adityannath said in a meeting of team 11 here.
Earlier, it was announced that students of Classes 1 to 8 studying in the state government schools would be promoted to the next Class without appearing for any exams.
However, the pre-scheduled exams will take place. Teachers and school staff would be called to schools as per the requirement.

Three terrorists were gunned down on Sunday during an encounter between the terrorists and the security forces in South Kashmir's Shopian district.
While congratulating the police and other security forces for showing patience during the operation, the Kashmir range Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar appealed to all the misguided youths, who have joined the terror ranks, to shun the path of violence and return to mainstream.
He said the society needed them and most importantly their parents wanted them by their side.

Five people were rescued from a house fire in south Delhi's Greater Kailash locality early Sunday, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) said.
A DFS official said information regarding the blaze was received at 4.18 am and four fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
The fire originated at the first floor of the building in Greater Kailash-2 and trapped those living above, the official said.
