3 soldiers, trooper, 3 militants killed in major action on LoC

Three Indian Army soldiers and a Border Security Force trooper were killed while neutralising three terrorists during a major gun battle near the LoC in Kupwara district as they foiled an infiltration bid from across the border in Jammu and Kashmir.

The infiltration was attempted in the Machil sector on Saturday night. The operation is ongoing, army said.

Army in a statement on Sunday said that during Saturday night a BSF patrol noticed suspicious movement near the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) of the LoC Fence, about 3.5 km from the LoC in the general area of Machil sector.

Srinagar records minus 1.4, coldest this season yet

At minus 1.4 degrees Celsius, Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season so far on Sunday.

An official of the local MET office said the minimum temperature was was due to clear sky. "At minus 2.8 Pahalgam was the coldest place in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Due to clear night sky expected till November 14, we expect the minimum temperatures to drop further in the coming days," the official said.

Pak's daily COVID-19 cases top 1,500 since July

Amid a recent resurgence of new Covid-19 cases across Pakistan, the country for the first time since July has reported more than 1,500 single-day confirmed infections, according to health authorities.

In it latest update, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said that 1,543 people tested positive for the virus on Saturday, while the number of active cases, which was less than 6,000 last month, has reached 17,520, reports Dawn news.

The new daily spike has increased the overall caseload to 342,373. The death toll currently stood at 6,955.

Global COVID-19 cases top 49.7mn: Johns Hopkins

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has topped 49.7 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 1,249,010, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Sunday morning, the total caseload and death toll stood at 49,750,431 and 1,249,018, respectively, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths at 9,849,696 and 237,017, respectively, according to the CSSE.

Minor girl set ablaze by jilted lover

In a shocking incident, a 15-year-old Dalit girl was set ablaze in a village in Ballia district by a youth for spurning his sexual advances.

The police said that the accused, Krishna Gupta, 21, has been arrested.

The victim was admitted to a hospital in Ballia but as her condition worsened, she was shifted to Varanasi for advanced treatment.

The incident took place late on Friday night.
