Three people were killed after a flour mill exploded at a shop in Pharendra town here on Friday, police said.
The explosion took place when a trial of the flour mill was being conducted at the shop under Pharendra police station area for a customer, they said.
Overheating of the machine of the mobile flour mill led to the explosion, Additional Superintendent of Police Nivesh Katiyar said.
A shop worker, Diwakar, died on the spot. Two customers, Akhilesh and Dipak, both residents of Kushinagar district, succumbed to injuries at the Gorakhpur medical college, he said.

The UN human rights office is calling for an independent investigation into the Beirut explosion, insisting that victims' calls for accountability must be heard .
Spokesman Rupert Colville of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights cited the need for the international community to step up to help Lebanon with both a quick response and sustained engagement.

At least four persons are feared killed in a landslide at Rajamalai in Idukki district due to heavy rain for the past four days, an official said on Friday.
The Kerala official said that details of the incident are awaited, with initial reports indicating four casualties.
"The initial reports indicate that four persons are reported dead. We are on our way to the spot," said Munnar revenue official Madhu.
State Power Minister M.M. Mani, who hails from the district, said the landslide had occurred at a place where tea estate workers were staying. He said the details are awaited as the terrain is very tough at the spot.

The Nepal government has reported five COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, the largest single day spike in the number of fatalities.
With the new deaths, Nepal's coronavirus fatality toll has reached 65, reports Xinhua news agency.
"Five persons aged between 42 years to 72 years died of the COVID-19 in the last 24 hours," Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, told a press briefing on Thursday.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested here for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old minor girl in Paschim Vihar area, the police said.
The man, identified as Krishna, also tried to kill the girl.
The victim has been admitted to AIIMS and her condition is said to be critical as she sustained multiple injuries on the body including the skull and stomach.

In yet another attempt to increase tensions, Pakistan on Thursday opened fire with small arms and mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in J&K's Poonch district, a defence officials said.
Defence Ministry spokesman, Colonel Devender Anand, said Pakistan initiated a unprovoked ceasefire violation by firing in Mendhar and Balakote sectors of Poonch
"Pakistan's firing and shelling started at 8 p.m. Indian Army is retaliating befittingly," he said.
Since the beginning of this year, Pakistan has so far violated the ceasefire over 2,720 times, killing 21 civilians and injuring 94 others.
Lives and livelihood of hundreds of border villagers living along the LoC have been thrown out of gear because of the continuing cross-border shelling.
