Man arrested for killing wife

A 42-year-old man allegedly killed his wife since he doubted her character, here in Maharashtra, police said on Thursday.

The accused, Rupji Ahadi, a resident of Gholwad in Dahanu taluka in Palghar district, has been arrested and booked for murder, local police PRO Hemant Katkar said.

The man and his 40-year-old wife would have frequent quarrels as he suspected her character, Katkar said.

Fire breaks out in office complex in west Delhi, four men rescued

Four men were rescued from a fire that broke out at an office complex in west Delhi's Furniture Market area on Thursday, a Delhi Fire Service official said.

The fire department said a call about the blaze was received at around 2 pm after which 12 fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Four people were in the office complex when the fire broke out. However, they were rescued on time by the fire personnel and the blaze was also brought under control, a senior fire officer said.

1 policeman killed, another injured in Pulwama terrorists attack

One policeman was killed and another injured after terrorists attacked a joint party of Jammu & Kashmir Police and CRPF in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to details terrorists attacked the joint team of police and 182 bn of CRPF at Sirnou crossing in Pulwama resulting in the injuries to two security forces personnel of which one succumbed to his injuries.

Additional reinforcements have reached the spot. Police have cordoned off the area and an operation has been launched to nab the attackers.

This is the second terror attack in Kashmir in last two days. On Wednesday two BSF jawans were killed after terrorists fired at them and snatched their weapons in Srinagar.

BJP leader shot dead in UP

Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Rampur councillor's husband Anurag Sharma has been shot dead in Aghapur area.

Late on Wednesday, Sharma was returning to his Jwala Nagar home on his scooty when unidentified assailants, who came on a motorbike, sprayed him with bullets. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died on the way.

According to reports, Sharma had a criminal background and several cases were registered against him. His supporters vandalized the district hospital requiring more force to be deployed.

His wife Shalini Sharma is a BJP councilor in Rampur.

Inspector General Ramit Sharma is leading the probe. He has visited the spot and ordered three teams to be set up to track the assailants.

"We will arrest the accused at the earliest. The matter is being investigated," he told reporters.

Cyclone Amphan leaves behind trail of destruction in West Bengal, 12 dead

Extremely severe cyclone 'Amphan' has killed at least 12 persons and ravaged Kolkata and several parts of West Bengal as it left behind a trail of destruction by uprooting trees, destroying thousands of homes and swamping low-lying areas of the state.

While a man and a woman were killed when trees came crashing down on them in North 24 Parganas district, a 13-year-old girl died in a similar incident in adjoining Howrah, officials said.

Three persons were killed in Hooghly and North 24 Paraganas districts due to electrocution, they said.

A woman and her seven-year-old son were killed in the Regent park area of Kolkata after a tree fell on them, the officials said.

They said a person was killed in Kolkata after being hit by a flying object during the storm.

Senior state officials said it was too early to estimate a toll on life or damage to property as the hardest hit areas were still not accessible.
