Stepping up his attack on Narendra Modi, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said even security personnel guarding the prime minister's official residence in Delhi may say the "chowkidar" (watchman) is a "chor" (thief).

Addressing a poll rally in Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh, Gandhi also reiterated his allegations over the Rafale jet purchase deal.

"I can say with guarantee...if you go in front of the Race Course Road (residence of the PM) where personnel of CRPF, BSF stand with guns...and utter the word 'chowkidar' in front of them, they will respond by saying 'chor hai'.

"You go to Race Course Road in Delhi and try this..say 'chowkidar'..Probably the security personnel standing before Narendra Modi's residence would say, 'chor hai'," he said.

Maharashtra CM writes to CEC requesting him for some relaxation in Model Code of Conduct in the state for drought relief works. Total 151 talukas of Maharashtra have been declared drought hit and center has passed a budget of Rs 4714 crore for drought relief in the state.

The letter also mentions that there are earlier examples when MCC relaxation was given in 2009. CM has requested to allow a cabinet meet and Ministers' visits to drought affected areas for taking stock of situation and necessary works which are to be undertaken as drought relief measures.

559 polling booths set up in Ladakh for May 6 Lok Sabha election

The authorities have set up 559 polling stations across four assembly segments for over 1.74 lakh electorate in the Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency for the smooth conduct of the polls in the fifth phase on May 6.

The Ladakh Lok Sabha constituency, spread over districts of Leh and Kargil, has four assembly segments -- Kargil, Zanskar, Leh and Nubra.

The constituency has an electoral strength of 1,74,618 voters which included 86,752 males and 85,064 females, 2,799 service voters and three transgenders, an official spokesman said on Tuesday.

The Kargil assembly segment has a total of 65,294 voters, including 32,895 males, 31,354 females, 1,044 service voters (1,041 male and 3 females) and one transgender voter. As many as 181 polling stations have been established in this segment, he said.

NCP supports Rahul on citizenship row

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday came out in support of Congress President Rahul Gandhi who has been served notice by the Union Home Ministry on his citizenship status.

NCP General Secretary DP Tripathi told reporters Rahul Gandhi has been a member of parliament for several years and the timing of the notice showed that it was served to make it an election issue.

"Subramanium Swamy has been raising these issues for several years but has never produced a concrete proof to support his allegations. The home ministry should not have served notice to him without any proof," he said.

Notice to Congress nominee in Himachal

The Congress nominee from Himachal Pradesh's Kangra Lok Sabha constituency has been served a show-cause notice by the Returning Officer for violating the model code of conduct while filing his nomination papers, official said on Tuesday.

Besides Congress candidate Pawan Kajal, who filed the papers on Monday, the notice has also been issued to a police official who was on duty at the time of filing nomination in Dharamsala city, some 250 km from the state capital.

As per rules, only five persons, including the party candidate, are allowed to enter office of the Returning Officer during filing of nomination papers.
