Punjab Police grills senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia for over 2.30 hrs

A suspect in an infamous drug smuggling case, senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia was grilled for over two-and-a-half hours by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch of Punjab police in Mohali on Wednesday.

Sources revealed that the SIT team asked Majithia about 60 questions during the probe.

Earlier Majithia reached the office of state Crime Branch in Mohali and appeared before the SIT probing the drugs case registered against him.

Brother-in-law of Punjab’s former Deputy Chief Minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Majithia was granted anticipatory bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the matter on Monday.

“I have come here before 11 am to appear before the SIT,” Majithia told media persons outside the state crime branch at Mohali.

The SIT allowed entry inside the Crime Branch office to Majithia, who was accompanied by his counsel and certain other supporters.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Monday had directed the Shiromani Akali Dal leader to join the investigation on Wednesday at 11 am while granting him anticipatory bail in the matter.

The former Punjab minister was also asked not to leave the country till the next date of hearing and was further asked to share with the investigating agency his live location through WhatsApp.

Majithia, booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act last month, made his first public appearance on Tuesday after paying obeisance at gurdwara Nada Sahib in Panchkula.

After questioning, Majithia also addressed media and alleged that the Congress leaders comprising Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, Chief Minister Charajit Singh Channi and state Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa hatched a conspiracy to frame him in a false case.
