To ensure smooth and hassle-free procurement of wheat in Rajpura Mandi, MLA Hardial Singh Kamboj alongwith Deputy Commissioner, Patiala Kumar Amit visited Rajpura Grain Market on Tuesday to review the ongoing wheat procurement operation.
Reviewing the procurement process in a meeting with the District Food and Civil Supplies Controller, District Managers of Procurement Agencies, District Marketing and Enforcement Officer, arhtiyas and farmers, MLA Kamboj and the Deputy Commissioner asked them to expedite the procurement of wheat and arrange gunny bags immediately as per the latest guidelines of the state government.
Kamboj said that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government was committed to ensure that farmers would not face any difficulty during the ongoing wheat season. He said that the farmers during the previous eight crop seasons have already witnessed the government’s sincerity towards the farmers, and this time too it will be done along the same lines.

Farmers would be given priority as the Chief Minister has been taking personal interest in this work and sorted out the minor hiccups by allowing use of used gunny bags, he said.
He said that he had met the Deputy Commissioner and the procurement agencies today and where there was a stalemate in the procurement process, it has been rectified.
Kumar Amit directed the District Managers of the procurement agencies to immediately procure the wheat of the farmers who had reached Rajpura Mandi with their produce. He said that the Chief Minister was personally monitoring the entire procurement process so no slack in the procurement of the crop would be tolerated.

District Food and Civil Supplies Controller Harsharanjit Singh Brar said that this season Rajpura Mandi had witnessed a huge arrival of wheat as against 67 thousand metric tonnes last time. 64,000 metric tonnes of wheat has reached Rajpura mandi and due to good and plentiful harvest, about 1 lakh metric tonnes of wheat is expected to arrive in this mandi by end of the season.
He assured the MLA Rajpura and the Deputy Commissioner that all the procurement agencies would sort out the issue of gunny bags to purchase the crop by ensuring prompt relief to the farmers.
