Priyanka Gandh took to Twitter and said, "There has been a heart wrenching incident of gas leak from a plant in Visakhapatnam. There are a large number of casualties. Hope the government will get the situation under control soon. My condolences to the loved ones of the dead. I pray to God for the well being of all the injured."

Right now gas has been neutralised. One of the antidote is drinking a lot of water. Around 800 were shifted to hospital, many have been discharged. Investigation will be carried out to see how this happened. It is an accident. They were strictly following all protocols. Investigation underway. Forensic teams are also being sent to the spot , says Andhra Pradesh DGP Damodar Goutam Sawang.

8 killed, over 1,000 fall sick, 5 villages affected in Vizag gas leak

Eight people were killed and over 1,000 fell sick in a gas leak incident that took place at the LG Polymer plant at Gopalapatnam on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam in the early hours of Thursday. The gas reportedly started leaking around 2:30 am when the workers were preparing to reopen the plant on Thursday.

All the unconscious people and those with breathing difficulties have been admitted to the King George Hospital in the city. An official at KGH said that the death toll is likely to go up. The doctor said that children below the age of 10 years were the most seriously affected.
