India will ask the International Monetary Fund to review its loans and grants to Pakistan, citing concerns over Islamabad’s alleged role in supporting terrorism, even as the Congress Working Committee yesterday urged the Modi government to “isolate and penalise Pakistan for its continued export of terror”, a reference to the reported connection of the Pakistan-backed Islamic militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba to the Pahalgam terror attack.

Pakistan, meanwhile, said it reserves the “right” to seek a meeting of the United Nations Security Council “when appropriate”, as tensions with India continued to escalate following the Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 dead last month.

Back home, diplomatic and security officials met to assess further steps, while calls grew louder across political lines for stronger global action against nations seen to be sheltering terror outfits.

Old rivalry, new flashpoint: Tikait heckled at rally on Pahalgam, BKU calls panchayat

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), a key player in the historic farmers’ protest that forced the Modi government to repeal three controversial farm laws, is once again in the crosshairs of the BJP-RSS combine.

Rakesh Tikait, a prominent BKU leader, was heckled during a rally in Muzaffarnagar held to condemn the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He was about to address the public meeting — organised in solidarity with the attack victims — but his turban was knocked off by some people. Speaking to reporters later, Tikait called it a "conspiracy" by "a political party" to silence the voice of farmers.

Five questions after Pahalgam

In times of national crisis, like the terror attack in Pahalgam, a fragmented response can embolden enemies and damage public morale. Sober minds advise restraint, and caution against politicising the moment. And yet, silence without scrutiny carries its own dangers — it can obscure systemic failures, diminish trust in institutions and leave the nation vulnerable.

Accountability is the lifeblood of democracy. Asking difficult questions is not an act of division, but a step towards ensuring that these horrors are not repeated. As the shock of the Pahalgam moment begins to subside, the ‘national interest’ lies in fostering a transparent — if still discreet —conversation. Nearly two weeks after the Pahalgam attack, silence is no longer an option. And so five questions demand our immediate consideration. Which questions? Read our special comment piece to find out.

Pakistan on Saturday announced that it has conducted a successful training launch of the Abdali Weapon System — a surface-to-surface missile with a range of 450 km, amid heightened tensions with India following the Pahalgam terror attack.

“The launch was aimed at ensuring the operational readiness of troops and validating key technical parameters, including the missile’s advanced navigation system and enhanced manoeuvrability features,” the army said in a statement.

The army said the missile launch was part of “Exercise INDUS” without giving details about the exercise.

The training launch was witnessed by the commander army strategic forces command, senior officials from the strategic plans division, army strategic forces command, as well as scientists and engineers from Pakistan’s strategic organisations.

Indian sources have described the missile test under such "volatile conditions" as nothing short of a "blatant provocation" and a "desperate attempt to whip up tensions" with India.
