After Delhi University came under fire from student groups for attempting to protect DU Students’ Union president Ankiv Baisoya in the fake degree case, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad said that they have asked Baisoya to resign from his post. They have also expelled him from all the responsibilities of the organization till the inquiry is over.

Baisoya, an ABVP student leader who is pursuing Masters in Buddhist Studies in the Delhi University, has been accused of faking his Bachelors degree certificate, a charge that can disqualify him from the position of the DUSU president.

NSUI claimed that it had sent Baisoya’s degree, submitted at DU, to the Thiruvalluvar University for verification. In response, the Tamil Nadu university rejected Baisoya’s claims of having graduated from the college. V Peruvalluthi, registrar in-charge of the Thiruvalluvar University had said, “This certificate is without any doubt fake,”

The university was criticised by student groups, which argued that it was deliberately delaying matters to favour the ABVP, to which Baisoya belongs.

The Delhi High Court on Monday, November 12, gave DU time till November 20 to verify authenticity of DUSU president Ankiv Baisoya's bachelors degree from a university in Tamil Nadu.

The court on October 30 had granted DU time till Monday to carry out the verification and inform it as the two-month period within which re-election could be held would expire on November 13.

According to the Lyngdoh Committee guidelines for student polls, a re-election can be held in the first 2 months after polling only if a candidate is found to be ineligible. In Baisoya’s case, the 60 day deadline ended on 12 November, and the Delhi University has done little to clear the mess.

The direction had come on NSUI student leader Sunny Chillar's plea seeking setting aside of Baisoya's election, alleging that according to news reports, the registrar of Thiruvalluvar University "unambiguously and unequivocally" declared that Baisoya's certificate was "fake and forged".
