Rahul Gandhi Drives Tractor to Reach Parliament in Protest Against Farm Laws

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday drove a tractor to reach Parliament and reiterated his support to farmers who have been protesting against the three new farm laws

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday drove a tractor to reach Parliament and reiterated his support to farmers who have been protesting against the three new farm laws.

In a symbolic move, Rahul Gandhi rode a tractor along with other Congress supporters while attacking the Centre against the farm bills. Rahul Gandhi spoke to reporters and said the contentious farm laws must be repealed at once.

"They (Centre) are suppressing voices of farmers and not letting a discussion take place in Parliament. They'll have to repeal these black laws. The entire country knows these laws favour two-three big businessmen," Rahul Gandhi told reporters after driving a tractor to Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have detained Congress General Secretary Randeep Surjewala, Youth Congress chief Srinivas BV, and some party workers for taking out a tractor march in violation of Section 144 of CrPC.

Thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have been protesting at the borders of Delhi for eight months. A group of 200 farmers have now started camping at Delhi's Jantar Mantar to agitate during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The three laws -- The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act 2020 -- were passed by the Parliament in September in 2020.
