SSC Exam Scam: Delhi Police take barber into custody to shut down protests

Despite the Staff Selection Commission and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh claiming that a CBI probe had been ordered into the alleged SSC recruitment scam, there is no end of the agitation in sight

Thousands of students protesting against the SSC recruitment scam on Wednesday were denied the services of barbers they had invited to shave their heads. While they hoped their shaven heads would be more effective in forcing the Staff Selection Commission to pay heed to their demand for a time-bound probe by the CBI, Delhi Police had other ideas when they took the barbers into custody.

Despite the evidence available on videos on social media, Delhi policemen justified their overwhelming presence at the site differently. “They have been silently protesting and have been causing no threat to law and order,” a group of policemen admitted to NH. An inspector who gave his name as Sahdev Singh Tomar confirmed, “We are just here for their protection.”

“There are anti-social elements trying to mix with the protestors and we are here to make sure that they are not successful in their attempts to either disturb the non-violent protests or the law and order situation here,” the inspector claimed.

The candidates scoffed at the statement issued by the SSC chairman expressing satisfaction at the Government accepting its recommendation for a CBI probe. They pointed out to the last sentence of the statement in which the SSC chairman hopes that the CBI probe would expose external forces which instigated the protests. That lets the cat out of the bag, they felt.

The agitating students claimed that they would not be satisfied at anything less than a time-bound probe by the CBI into all aspects of SSC exams and which is monitored by the apex court.

Protestors claimed that Delhi Police had tried everything possible to make them disperse. “They denied us drinking water, food and even prevented access to the mobile toilet we had arranged for female protestors,” claimed one of them.
