Lok Sabha adjourned for the day amid Opposition protests over NEET row

Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned for the day on Friday as Opposition members continued their protests over several issues, including the NEET paper leak controversy and alleged theft of donations linked to the Ram temple.

Amid persistent sloganeering, the House passed the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026 without a debate.

Papers scheduled for the day were also laid on the table of the House, along with reports from various parliamentary committees.

Opposition members continued to demand a response from Home Minister Amit Shah over alleged police excesses during recent student protests against the NEET paper leak.

Responding to the demand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Opposition could not decide which minister should appear before the House to respond to an issue.

Rijiju said Shah attended Parliament regularly and remained there until late in the evening. He also accused the Opposition of disrupting proceedings and asked protesting MPs to end what he described as their "drama".

Dilip Saikia, who was in the Chair, repeatedly appealed to Opposition members to return to their seats and allow proceedings to continue.

"Please go to your seats. Please cooperate," Saikia told the protesting MPs.

The appeals failed to restore order, with protests and sloganeering continuing inside the House. Zero Hour lasted just 16 minutes before proceedings were adjourned for the remainder of the day. The Lok Sabha is scheduled to meet again on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Question Hour was also disrupted by Opposition protests, forcing the House to be adjourned until noon.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament, which began on 20 July, has witnessed repeated disruptions amid continuing differences between the government and the Opposition over several issues.
