Bollywood actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika joins Congress

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and chief of state unit of Congress Navjot Singh Sidhu welcomed the entry of Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood Sachar into the party on Monday

In a development that may boost the incumbent Congress party’s electoral prospects in poll-bound Punjab, Malvika Sood Sachar, the sister of Bollywood actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood, joined the state unit of the party on Monday afternoon.

In a photograph shared on various social media platforms, Sonu and Malvika can be seen sitting with Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. It is believed that Sidhu was instrumental in Malvika joining the Congress.

Confirming the development, Sidhu later said: “Sonu Sood is known all over the world for his humanity and kindness and today a member from that family is joining us. She is an educated woman”.

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi also met Malvika and shared a photograph of himself with her on Twitter. “Welcoming Malvika Sood Sachar, sister of Social worker and actor Sonu Sood into the party-fold. I am sure Malvika will serve the people with full honesty and integrity and help spread the message of the Congress party at the grass-root level,” he tweeted.

Punjab Congress posted a photograph on its Twitter handle in which Sonu and his sister can be seen along with CM Channi and Sidhu. “Like the Congress party, he (Sonu Sood) chose to work for people's progress. He gave a ray of hope to thousands in distress in saving lives and helping people, he found his success,” it posted.

The development is also being seen as a rebuke to the AAP by the actor as a few months back, Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi govt had named Sonu Sood as brand ambassador of its ‘Desh ke Mentor’ initiative.

It may be recalled that Sonu Sood, who had gained prominence by helping the unprivileged during the second wave of COVID pandemic, was recently targeted by Income Tax dept which alleged that he was guilty of tax evasion.

Several Congress leaders, activists and supporters welcomed Malvika in Congress family.

Former AAP MLA Alka Lamba who later joined the Congress shared a picture of Sonu Sood on her Twitter handle with a welcome message.

National Coordinator, Digital Communications and Social Media, AICC Gaurav Pandhi tweeted, “Today, Malvika Sood is joining Congress in

Punjab while her brother Sonu Sood is lending support (to) the party in the upcoming elections. Both of them have taken the decision considering the prosperity of people and wellbeing of Punjab!”
