The Congress on Friday strongly condemned the CBI raids carried out at over 20 places including former chief minister of Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s residence. The CBI on Friday registered a fresh case against former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and several others in connection with the alleged irregularities in allotting over 1,417 acres of land during 2009-12 in Gurugram.

Addressing the media, the Congress leader Anand Sharma slammed the Modi government for misusing agencies of the country for settling political scores.

“There is a mindset which controls Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP President Amit Shah and his government, that is to defame, intimidate political opponents with the objective to muzzle the voice of the opposition and to tarnish the image of tall leaders and to achieve that objective, they used the agencies of the nation like the CBI which has lost all credibility or faith of the people because of the manner in which the Prime Minister who is directly In-charge of the CBI has misused the CBI for targeted vendetta against political opponents including former Congress Chief Ministers and political opponents,” the Congress leader said.

Blaming the government for turning the country into a police state, Anand Sharma said that the timing of the raids and ill-will behind it is very clear. It is important to note here that Bhupinder Singh Hooda was scheduled to address a rally in Jind on Friday in support of the Congress candidate Randeep Singh Surjewala.

He added that the raids have been carried in the same manner in the past with the intention of intimidating and suppressing the voice of opposition against the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav and former chief minister of Rajasthan Ashok Gehlot too who is now back as the Rajasthan chief minister. He argued that there are serious allegations against many BJP leaders and chief ministers but no action has been taken against them. “Are there two sets of law in this country?” he asked.

The Congress leader also warned all concerned officials not to “exceed their brief or take any action outside the ambit of the law of the land in furtherance of the government’s sinister agenda,” because governments keep changing and the new government will hold the concerned officials accountable for taking action outside the ambit of law.

“Prime Minister is staring at an imminent defeat and that is why these actions. When the new government assumes office, all such actions which have been at the behest of the political masters of today to harass, intimidate, frame and defame, even the charges were framed, they will be held to account and they will have to answer”, he said.
