Jammu and Kashmir news LIVE updates: UK issues advisory to its citizens against travelling to J&K

Tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims started to leave the Kashmir Valley on Saturday in the wake of J&K authorities issuing an advisory, asking them to cut short their stay citing security threats.

Workers of all political parties should come together so that a message can be given to Centre that they can't toy with J&K's special position. Recent developments in J&K have created fear among people&it's unfortunate that Centre isn't issuing a clear statement.

“Thousands of tourists, yatris are stranded at the bus stands, railway stations and at airports in Jammu and Kashmir. 2.50 lakh working-class people living in J&K  including labours from UP, Bihar are leaving the state. The worst is that students of NIT Srinagar are also leaving the state and have vacated the campus.”

The Jammu and Kashmir government has requested the Indian Air Force to airlift the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims out of the Kashmir valley to places such as Jammu, Pathankot or Delhi from where they can go back home.

Students of Kashmir Polytechnic College have been asked to vacate hostel by the college administration.

Hours after a government advisory on Friday asked Amarnath pilgrims and tourists to leave the valley at the earliest because of a terror threat, the NIIT in Srinagar told its students from other states to leave the city, reported Hindustan Times

According to latest reports, 3 JeM operatives were positioned in terror launch pads in Nezapir sector of PoK, opposite Indian post of Shahpur sector in Poonch. They had direct operational backing of Pakistani SSG (Special Service Group) commandos deployed in this area.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor S P Malik has asked political leaders in the state to tell their supporters to maintain calm and not to believe "exaggerated rumours" being circulated in the valley.

The Governor said this to a delegation of political leaders of various parties led by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, an official spokesman said here in a statement late Friday night.

National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah says, We told Governor that there are rumours about 35A, 370, delimitation and even trifurcation, Governor assured us that in all these issues, no preparation is being made for any announcement.

“Yet again the valley is on edge. It’s a travesty that Central govt hasn’t made efforts to reach out & clarify recent developments. I’ll be in Budgam today to meet party workers & create awareness about J&K’s special constitutional provisions,” says Mehbooba Mufti.

Omar Abdullah, National Conference says, On Monday, when Parliament starts functioning, Centre should give a statement on what was the need for the order to end yatra & evacuate tourists. We want to hear it from the Parliament that there is no need for people to be afraid.

The 43-day-long 'Machail Mata Yatra' in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir was suspended on Saturday due to security reasons, officials said.

Authorities have asked people not to start the yatra and those on the way should leave and get back.

"The yatra has been suspended with immediate effect due to security reasons," Deputy Commissioner of Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana told PTI.
