This decision came close on the heels of the killing of eight police personnel in Kanpur and subsequent brainstorming by senior leaders of the UP Congress on Saturday.
Chaired by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, general secretary in-charge of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, the meeting was called to discuss deteriorating situation of “law and order” in Uttar Pradesh.

“Jungle raj reigns in UP, even policemen are not safe,” said Priyaka Gandhi during the meeting.
“Due to nexus among criminals, ruling party members and officials, law and order situation in the state has been completely demolished. Protection from the ruling party has encouraged criminals,” added Priyanka Gandhi.
Apart from UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, the meeting was attended by senior leader Jitin Prasad, CLP leader Aradhana Mishra, Imran Masood besides others.

Priyanka was among the first to react to the killing of policemen in Kanpur, demanding that responsibility be fixed for such incidents. “As the news about the incident in Kanpur came to the fore, a family of four was also killed in Prayagraj. Father and daughter were murdered in Ghaziabad. Looking at this jungle raj, accountability needs to be fixed,” she said on Friday.
