Uttar Pradesh: 15 killed in anti-CAA violence, 263 policemen injured: Police

Uttar Pradesh: As many as 15 persons have been killed and hundreds others injured, including 263 police personnel, during anti-CAA protests in the state since December 10, the police has said.

Also, 705 people have been arrested while around 4,500 people were released after preventive arrest. Among the injured policemen, 57 personnel received fire arm injuries, UP IG IG(Law&Order) Praveen Kumar said on Saturday.

4 students detained during anti-CAA protest outside UP Bhawan in Delhi

The Delhi Police on Saturday detained four students during a protest against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in Chanakyapuri here, officials said.

The protesters were taken to the Mandir Marg police station, they said. The students had gathered outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan with banners which read "No CAA, No NRC" and "Save Constitution".

The students said that they are from Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, the police said. Security had been beefed up outside Uttar Pradesh Bhawan in anticipation of the protest, they said.

A huge crowd of protesters gathered outside the Jamia Millia Islamia on Saturday and swelled up within minutes into mega rally shouting slogans "Modi-Shah hosh mein aao, Hindu-Muslim mat karao" as the police tried helplessly to maintain law and order.

This is the same area, where violent protests took place just a week back pulling the national capital into the nation-wide frenzy over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. As students joined residents at Jamia's gate no 7, one of the carriageway was blocked and slogans like "We want justice" filled the area.

Yediyurappa to visit Mangaluru, hold meetings with officials

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa is visiting Mangaluru which was rocked by violent protests against the CAA leaving two dead in police firing, on Saturday and will hold meetings with top officials to review the situation there.

"I'm going to Mangaluru along with Govind Karjol (Deputy Chief Minister) and Basavaraj Bommai (Home Minister).

I will hold meetings with officials there to know the reasons (for the violence)," Yediyurappa told reporters here before leaving for Mangaluru.

Asked whether an inquiry will be ordered into the incident, he said, "I will go there and hold meetings, after knowing things I will take a call."

Congress steps up campaign against CAA in Kerala

The Congress in Kerala is organising protests in all district headquarters on Saturday as part of strengthening its campaign against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Senior Congress leaders including Ramesh Chennithala, K C Venugopal, Mullappally Ramachandran and Shashi Tharoor are participating in the campaign, capturing the mood of the people in the state against the law enacted by Parliament during its winter session.

Anti-CAA stir: Death toll in UP violence rises to 11 Lucknow

At least 11 people, including an 8-year-old boy, have lost their lives in Uttar Pradesh as the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act turned violent in the state, officials said on Saturday.

Four deaths were reported from Meerut district, while the boy lost his life in a stampede in Varanasi when a violent mob was being chased by police personnel, they said.

After Friday prayers, six people were killed as protesters clashed with the police at several places in the state. They hurled stones and torched vehicles, the officials said.
