On the eve of the New Year, the Railways Ministry on Tuesday announced a hike in the basic passenger fare.
The revised fare will be effective from January 1, 2020.

A man has been booked for allegedly divorcing his wife by pronouncing triple talaq in Delhi.
Police registered a case on Saturday based on a complaint lodged by the woman. In her complaint, the woman said she got married to Shujauddin on November 20, 2017.
She used to live with her husband and in-laws at Sahibabad. Soon after marriage, her husband started ill-treating her and physical assaulting her, the FIR stated.
On September 5, her husband visited her parents at Sadiq Nagar and picked up a fight with her and assaulted her before giving triple talaq, she alleged.
Police said investigation is underway.

Internet services in all government-run hospitals and SMS to all mobile phones will be restored from December 31 midnight in the Kashmir Valley, Jammu and Kashmir official spokesman Rohit Kansal said on Tuesday.
On December 10, some short message service (SMS) were enabled on mobile phones in order to facilitate students, scholarship applicants, traders and others.

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) and zonal railways have announced special late night services on New Year's Eve, officials said.
While the BEST plans to operate 20 extra buses on seven routes connecting the city's sea fronts to railway stations, the Western and Central railways will ply eight and four services respectively on Tuesday night.
The WR will ply eight services after midnight between Churchgate and Virar stations, and CR will operate four -- two between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)-Kalyan andtwo between CSTM-Panvel on Harbour line.

A major fire broke out at a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) workshop in Peth Road area here late Monday night.
The blaze was doused on Tuesday morning but caused a damage worth around Rs 4 lakh though nobody was injured, an official said.
Some 800 scrap tyres and other materials were gutted in the fire that started around 9.30 pm on Monday, he said.

The Delhi government's naming committee on Tuesday decided to rename Pragati Maidan metro station as Supreme Court metro station.
Making the announcement, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the committee in its meeting also decided to rename Mukarba Chowk and its flyover after Kargil war martyr Captain Vikram Batra and MB Road as Acharya Sri Mahapragya Marg.

As a measure to avert any untoward incidents on New Year's Eve, over 2,000 police personnel will be deployed at 112 points, including inner city malls, crowded markets and border areas across Gurugram, a police officer said on Tuesday.
“As we know, Gurugram is the destination for celebration of New Year's Eve. Residents and party lovers will celebrate and organise events in different places here. I urge people to celebrate in a peaceful manner. If any untoward incident happens to anyone, they should not panic. Gurugram Police will be there with you for help,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan said.

The air quality of the national capital improved significantly from 'severe' to 'very poor' category on Tuesday.
Delhi's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed 300 on Tuesday morning which falls in the 'very poor' category, as against 440 on Monday.
An AQI between 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 is 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 as 'severe'. An AQI above 500 falls in the 'severe plus' category.

The Indian Railways has renamed its security force RPF (Railway Protection Force) as Indian Railway Protection Force Service.
The ministry has accorded organised Group A status to RPF and renamed it, according to an order issued on Monday.
"Consequent upon grant of organized group A status ( OGAS) to RPF in the light of Cabinet decision arising from honourable court's orders, it is hereby informed that RPF will be known as Indian Railway Protection Force Service," the order stated.

Four people, including a government employee, arrested after the violence during anti-citizenship law protests here were released on court orders.
According to prosecution, they were released as the police have given them clean chit in its report filed in a court.

General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Tuesday took charge as the Chief of Army Staff, succeeding Bipin Rawat.
Gen Naravane served as vice chief of the Army before taking charge of the 1.3 million strong Army.
In his 37 years of service, Gen Naravane served in numerous command and staff appointments in peace, field and highly active counter-insurgency environments in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast.
He also commanded a Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.

A zilla parishad employee here in Maharashtra has been arrested for allegedly taking bribe from a person for facilitating clearance of the latter's payment, the ACB said on Tuesday.
The accused, Deepak Salve, a senior assistant in the zilla parishad's education department, allegedly demanded Rs 15,000 from the person for forwarding his file to authorities concerned for payment of Rs 9.58 lakh for the construction work of a school at Asose village, it said in a release.
The aggrieved person approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which laid a trap and caught the accused while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant at the zilla parishad office on Monday, the release said.
The accused was arrested and booked under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the ACB added.

The delay in train varies from 15 hours to one hour. Long-distance trains such as Bhubaneshwar- Anand Vihar Odisha Sampark Kranti Express (12819) was delayed by 15 hours on Tuesday morning whereas Puri- Anand Vihar Neelanchal (12875) is running late by 13 hours. Lucknow- Delhi Gomti Express is running late by 5 hours while Amritsar- New Delhi Intercity is late by over an hour.
