FM on Yes Bank says: Since 2017 there were governance issues and weak compliance in the bank

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, Since 2017, RBI has been continuously monitoring & scrutinizing Yes Bank. It noticed that there were governance issues and weak compliance in the bank. There was a wrong asset classification together with risky credit decisions.

I have asked RBI to ago into assessing what has caused these difficulties for the bank and clearly identify the roles played by various individuals in creating the problem and not addressing it, added FM.

Nirmala Sitharaman says, “Our govt is committed to ensuring that depositors' interests are safeguarded. I want RBI to ensure that due process of law is set to roll with a sense of urgency so that we should find out as to who led to the problem of this size & magnitude.”

Security tightened at Yes Bank branches, ATMs in Mumbai

Security at Yes Bank headquarters, its branches and ATMs across Mumbai was tightened to avert any untoward incident, as hundreds of account holders of the crisis-hit private lender rushed to withdraw money, an official said on Friday.

The RBI on Thursday imposed a moratorium on the capital-starved Yes Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account.

Account holders rushed to branches of the bank and their ATMs in panic to withdraw money on Friday morning, leading to chaos at many centres, including the one in south Mumbai's Fort area.

SC fixes April 14 for hearing of Delhi Police’s plea against Harsh Mander for hate speech

The Supreme Court asked activist Harsh Mander on Friday to file his response to the allegation of the Delhi Police that he had also delivered hate speeches during anti-CAA protests here.

The top court, however, made it clear that it had not issued a contempt notice to Mander and said it would hear the plea on April 15.

The Delhi Police, in its plea filed on Wednesday, sought initiation of contempt proceedings against Mander for his alleged derogatory remarks, making insinuations against the apex court and its judges.

Appearing for Mander, senior advocate Dushyant Dave said he had perused the statement attributed to the activist and found nothing contemptuous and objectionable in those.

Delhi HC lists pleas on northeast Delhi violence, hate speeches on March 12

The Delhi High Court on Friday listed the pleas on violence in northeast Delhi and hate speeches by political leaders on March 12.

A bench headed by Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar listed the PIL seeking lodging of FIRs and arrests in the communal violence in northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law and alleged hate speeches by political figures for March 12.

The death toll in northeast Delhi's communal violence stood at 44 with over 200 injured.

Lok Sabha adjourned till 12 noon as Opposition disrupts proceedings

Lok Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon on Friday as Opposition members disrupted the proceedings and raised slogans over the Delhi violence.

As soon as Lok Sabha assembled at 11 AM, some members of the Congress and other Opposition parties trooped into the well of the House, raising slogans demanding that Home Minister Amit Shah resign over the Delhi violence.

As the commotion continued during the Question Hour, Kirit Solanki, who was presiding the proceedings, announced adjourning the House till 2 PM.

Later the time was revised to 12 noon.

Maharashtra: Two killed, 10 hurt as truck turns turtle on highway

Two persons were killed and 10 injured when a borewell truck turned turtle near Khambataki tunnel on Pune-Satara Highway in the early hours of Friday, police said.

The incident took place at around 6 am, when the borewell truck was taking a turn at a bend near the tunnel, but hit the concrete railing and flipped over instead, an official said.

"Two persons died on the spot, while three are grievously injured and seven have sustained minor injuries," a station duty officer of the Khandala police station said.

The injured men have been rushed to a hospital in Satara, he added.

13 killed as SUV collides with car in Karnataka's Tumakuru

At least 13 persons, including women and children, were killed and five critically wounded when an SUV collided with a car that had crashed against a road divider moments ago near Kunigal in Tumakuru district of Karnataka in the early hours of Friday, police said.

Of the victims, while 12 died on the spot, a child breathed his last in a hospital, they added.

The injured were admitted to the hospital, the police said.

Among the dead, 10 were from Tamil Nadu and three from Bengaluru. All of them were pilgrims who were on their way to Dharmasthala in Karnataka.

There were five women and two children among the dead, the police said.

"Thirteen persons have died. The incident occurred post midnight. A car crashed against the road divider and another car collided with it," Tumakuru Superintendent of Police (SP) K Vamsi Krishna told PTI.

The police had to struggle to pull the bodies out from the mangled vehicles.

On learning about the incident, relatives of the victims rushed to the spot.
