Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi accuses BSP’s top leadership of backstabbing Schedule Caste community

BSP no longer represents ideology of Babu Kanshi Ram, which aimed at empowering the SC community, said Channi, alleging that the BSP has ‘sold’ 15 of the total 20 seats allotted to it to Akali Dal

The top leadership of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has backstabbed the Schedule Caste by ‘selling’ the party to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said on Friday.

The BSP no longer represents the ideology of Babu Kanshi Ram, which aimed at empowering the SC community, said Channi, alleging that the BSP has ‘sold’ 15 of the total 20 seats allotted to it to the Akali Dal. He said that the BSP leadership has become a slave of the Akali Dal.

The Punjab CM was addressing a public gathering in Jalandhar on Friday.

Training guns against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal, Channi dared him to explain why Punjabis should believe him when his own flock doesn’t have faith in him.

The Punjab CM said that three out of four AAP MPs elected in 2014 have left the party fold and even 11 out of 20 MLAs elected in 2017 have left the AAP. “This is indicative of the fact that the AAP is a house of cards that is bound to doom in a day or two,” said Channi.

Channi said that Kejriwal has no basic knowledge about the state due to which he doesn’t know that in Punjab every youth has to do multitasking every day for running his household. “Kejriwal doesn't even know how to milk a cow. What does he know about the problem of the state?” he said.

Terming AAP as a modern East India Company, he said that it aims at plundering the wealth of Punjab.

Listing the several pro-people initiatives taken by his government, Channi said that power bill arrears worth Rs. 1500 crore have been waived, power rates for domestic consumers have been reduced by Rs. 3 per unit and bills to the tune of Rs. 1200 crore have been waived off in respect of motors in rural areas. Moreover, water charges had been brought down to Rs. 50 and rates for sand have been reduced a lot.

Former MP Sunil Jakhar said that the first bugle against the draconian farm laws was blown by Punjab farmers and ultimately the NDA government had to take that decision back. Terming it a historic victory for Punjab’s farmer, Jakhar said that all the farmers had buried their differences to win the battle.

The former Lok Sabha MP said that for securing the state’s interests, all the Punjabis especially the Congressmen have to unite. He said that winning the general elections in 2024 can be possible only if Punjab wins 2022 polls for which all the Congress leaders must unite.

All India Congress General Secretary Harish Chaudhary slammed the Akali, BJP and AAP leadership for working against the interests of the state. He said that Channi is the representative of the poorest of poor in the state. Chaudhary also lauded the Channi government for initiating several pro-poor initiatives.
