Ready to go to jail if govt thinks meeting breaved tribals is a crime: Priyanka Gandhi

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday said that she was ready to go to jail if the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh thinks that meeting the breaved families of the tribals killed in Wednesday’s shootout in Sonbhadra was a crime.

In a series of tweets, Priyanka Gandhi expressed her anguish and disapaointment at the Yogi Adityanath government creating a “tamasha” by illegally detaining her at a guesthouse without a valid reason and not allowing her to proceed to Sonbhadra, 80 kms from Varanasi.

She insisted she had a responsibility as well as a moral right to meet the poor tribals facing carnage and share their grief.

At least 10 persons were killed over two dozen injured when a village headman, a gurjar, and his men opened fire at the tribals resisting the land grab by the headman at a village in Sonbhadra.

The Congress general secretary said that the administration was demanding a Rs 50,000 personal bond for her release.

“Since I have neither committed a crime nor violated any law, I find giving a bond for my release as immoral...My resolve to meet the bereaved families of those killed is unshakeable,” she said.
