Slain J&K lawyer and TV panellist Babar Qadri had expressed apprehension of threat to his life

Qadri, a prominent lawyer at J&K High Court, who was involved in many cases concerning human rights and juvenile justice in Kashmir, was shot dead on Thursday evening

Lawyer and TV panellist Babar Qadri was shot dead near his residence in Hawal area of Srinagar on Thursday evening, three days after expressing apprehension of threat to his life, LiveLaw.in reported.

Qadri was a prominent lawyer at the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and was involved in many cases concerning human rights and juvenile justice in Kashmir.

Recently, he had tweeted that there is a threat to his life as a 'wrong campaign' was spread against him, that he works for agencies.

He had also shared the screenshot of a message sent to him by one Shah Nazir, accusing him of getting a chance on TV debates as he was being projected by agencies.

"I urge the state Police administration to register FIR against this Shah Nazir who has spread wrong campaign that I work for agencies. This un true statement can lead to threat to my life," Qadri had written.

He had also posted a video on Facebook, claiming that the Bar Association lawyers were planning to kill him.

He was reportedly declared dead on arrival at the Sher–i– Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences after the incident.

Qadri had been practicing law in Jammu and Kashmir for more than a decade. In 2012, he was suspended by the Kashmir Bar Association for constant criticism. Recently, his application to lift the suspension was rejected by the Bar.
