Delhi-bound IndiGo flight returns to Goa after engine snag, makes emergency landing

A Delhi-bound IndiGo flight carrying 229 passengers returned to Goa and made an emergency landing on Tuesday after one of its engines developed a technical snag shortly after take-off, officials said.

IndiGo flight 6E 2102 departed from Goa for Delhi at 9.16 am but turned back after the aircraft reported an engine-related problem.

The Air Traffic Control (ATC) declared a full emergency at around 9.30 am, following which the pilots returned the aircraft to Manohar International Airport in Mopa, North Goa.

The aircraft landed safely on runway 28 at 9.51 am, an airport source said.

An airport official confirmed that 229 passengers were on board the flight.

“IndiGo flight 6E 2102, which departed from Goa for Delhi at 9.16 am, returned to Goa after reporting a failure in one of its engines. The Air Traffic Control (ATC) declared a full emergency around 9.30 am and the aircraft landed safely on runway 28 at 9.51 am,” the source said.

The official said the aircraft returned after one of its engines developed a snag.

IndiGo, in a statement, said a technical issue was detected shortly after the aircraft took off from North Goa.

“Following the standard operating procedure, the relevant authorities were informed, and the pilots turned back and landed the aircraft safely at Manohar International Airport,” the airline said.

The aircraft has been taken up for maintenance checks and will resume operations only after securing the necessary clearances, IndiGo said.

The airline also said alternative arrangements had been made to ensure that the affected passengers could continue their journey to Delhi.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident.

The emergency landing comes after the aircraft had been airborne for roughly half an hour. The safe return was completed after the pilots followed standard procedures for dealing with the reported technical issue.
