At least six people were injured after a suspected LPG cylinder explosion triggered the collapse of a building in Delhi’s Mukundpur area on Tuesday morning, prompting a major rescue operation by emergency services.

According to officials, the Delhi Fire Service received a distress call at around 9:37 am reporting a blast followed by the collapse of a residential structure. Firefighters, police personnel and civic authorities rushed to the site as rescue teams began searching the debris for possible survivors.

Five fire tenders were deployed immediately after the alert, while emergency responders launched a coordinated operation to ensure no one remained trapped beneath the rubble.

Preliminary investigations suggest the blast occurred in a building being used as a utensil-polishing facility. While the exact cause is yet to be officially confirmed, authorities suspect an LPG cylinder explosion may have triggered the collapse.

Officials said the force of the explosion brought down a single-storey structure spread over nearly 250 square yards.

Authorities said the condition of the injured would be assessed following detailed medical examinations.

Officials said further details regarding the cause of the blast and the health status of the injured are awaited.

Ghaziabad fire kills three pet dogs

The Mukundpur incident came just hours after a major fire broke out in a multi-storey residential building in Ghaziabad’s Avantika Colony Phase 2.

According to officials, four members of a family were trapped inside their apartment when the blaze erupted in the early hours of Tuesday. Firefighters successfully rescued all four occupants.

However, three pet dogs inside the flat died due to asphyxiation caused by heavy smoke.

The Kotwali Fire Station received information about the blaze at around 3:09 a.m. Fire crews rushed to the scene and managed to bring the fire under control before it spread further.

Preliminary findings indicate the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the drawing room or near the main entrance. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the drawing room, kitchen, storeroom and one bedroom.

After extinguishing the fire and conducting a thorough search of the flat, firefighters found the three dogs dead from smoke inhalation.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into both incidents.
