Jayendra Saraswati, the Shankaracharya of the Kanchipuram Kamakoti Math, has passed away on Wednesday morning.
He was admitted to Chennai's Ramachandra hospital last month. As per Zee Media sources, his blood sugar had dipped. However, he was discharged and he resumed his normal activities.
He was the 69th Shankaracharya Guru and head or pontiff of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.
Subramanyam Mahadeva Iyer was nominated by his predecessor, Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Swamigal, as his successor and was given the pontifical title Sri Jayendra Saraswathi on 22 March 1954.
