J&K BJP: No official confirmation of ministers’ resignations

News flashed late on Tuesday evening that all Bharatiya Janata Party ministers had resigned from the Jammu and Kashmir state government—in which the BJP is in partnership with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s J&K People’s Democratic Party—to make way for new inductees. The resignations were related to a reshuffle and nothing else, ANI reported, quoting J&K sources.

Sources also told National Herald that “The BJP ministers have resigned to induct fresh faces in the state cabinet. There is no threat to the coalition government.” However, BJP's chief spokesperson in J&K Sunil Sethi told NH that there is no official confirmation of the resignations.

The six BJP ministers in the BJP-PDP coalition government are Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Kumar Singh, Bali Bhagat, Chering Dorjay, Abdul Ghani Kohli, Sunil Kumar Sharma and Priya Sethi.

Earlier, two BJP ministers—Chaudhary Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga, who allegedly attended a rally organised by the Hindu Ekta Manch in support of the Kathua rape case accused—had submitted their resignations on April 13. On Tuesday, April 17, Lal Singh staged a protest march in Jammu to demand a CBI probe in the Kathua rape and murder case.
