Bihar man killed over pending wages; Tejashwi accuses BJP-led govt of 'protecting criminals'

A 60-year-old man was allegedly shot dead in Bihar's Rohtas district after he went to a landowner to demand unpaid wages due to his farm labourer son, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday accusing the BJP-led state government of "protecting criminals".

Chandreshwar Chaudhary was allegedly killed by Ajit Tiwari on August 4 in Jogiya village and his body was dumped in a nearby canal. Police recovered the body on Thursday.

Rohtas Superintendent of Police Raushan Kumar said Ajit Tiwari and his son Ritik Tiwari had been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur.

Yadav, who was scheduled to visit the family of the deceased, said the victim belonged to the extremely backward class and announced that he would provide financial assistance to the family on behalf of the RJD.

"A man had gone to a landlord to demand the wage due to his son, but was murdered. I am going to meet the family members of the victims, who belong to the extremely backward class. I will provide some financial assistance to them on behalf of the party," Yadav said.

Before leaving for Rohtas, the RJD leader alleged that the government led by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary was attempting to "protect criminals" in the state.

"Ever since the government led by Samrat Choudhary has assumed charge of the state, there has been an unprecedented rise in crime. Unfortunately, an attempt is being made to protect criminals in Bihar," he alleged.

"The government's coffer is empty, while corruption and crime are on the rise," Yadav said.
