Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on 2 April accused the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of acting as the “B-team” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a corner meeting at Puthanthopu as part of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) campaign for the Kerala Assembly elections, she alleged that the LDF had failed to effectively oppose the Centre.

“Think about it. Name one leader who has stood up and expressed themselves against Narendra Modi and not been attacked,” she said, referring to actions by central agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax Department and CBI.

Criticism over foreign policy and West Asia crisis

Priyanka Gandhi also criticised the Centre’s handling of the ongoing West Asia conflict, alleging that India’s position had weakened.

She claimed that the Prime Minister had “bowed down” to the United States and Israel, resulting in a situation where India would face economic consequences alongside other countries.

“Our PM is a coward… We are paying every day because he does not have the guts to stand up for India,” she alleged.

She further said that the government’s policies had failed to ensure the safety of Indians in the Gulf region amid the conflict.

Attack on Kerala government

Turning to state issues, the Congress leader accused the LDF government of failing to deliver on governance and development.

She alleged that opportunities for people in Kerala had reduced over time and claimed that the state government had been “negligent” towards public concerns.

Priyanka Gandhi also alleged that the healthcare system in Kerala was under strain, citing shortages of staff, medical equipment and medicines in government-run hospitals.

Her remarks come as campaigning intensifies ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections, with the Congress targeting both the BJP-led Centre and the LDF government in the state.

There was no immediate response from the LDF or the BJP to the allegations.
